The Morpho aurora butterfly from South America is renowned for its iridescent blue wings that gleam and shimmer in the light. The stunning color is caused by tiny scales on the wings that reflect light instead of using pigment. This butterfly is not only a beauty but also a popular subject for artwork and collections. What's fascinating is that there are over 80 species of morpho butterflies found in regions of South and Central America as well as Mexico. The origin of the name "morpho" is believed to come from the butterfly's ability to change shape while in flight. This preserved specimen can be admired in a 5” x 5" frame.
