The Morpho menelaus, popularly known as the Menelaus blue morpho, is an awe-inspiring butterfly originating from the lush rainforests of Central and South America, including Mexico. With an impressive wingspan of 12 cm, it showcases dazzling blue wings edged in striking black. The upper wings gleam with a brilliant blue, thanks to iridescent scales that beautifully catch the light, while the underside presents a subtle brown adorned with clever eyespots for protection. This enchanting species belongs to the extensive morpho butterfly family, which features over 80 varieties primarily found in these vibrant regions. The term "morpho" reflects their mesmerizing, shape-shifting flight. This stunning specimen is superbly preserved in an elegant 9"x9" frame, accompanied by a captivating painting by Beth Watson.
