Named after its distinguishing skull-like pattern on the thorax, Acherontia atropos, also known as the African death's-head hawkmoth, is one of three species in the Acherontia genus, alongside Acherontia lachesis and Acherontia styx. This species is native to southern Europe and Africa, and is often associated with superstitions. However, it poses little threat and only causes minor disruptions to beehives and crops. This preserved specimen, with a stunning photo by Beth Watson at the Catacombes de Paris, is a popular addition to any collection in its compact 6"x6" frame.
