The Menelaus blue morpho (Morpho menelaus) is a stunning butterfly with brilliant blue wings outlined in black, and a wingspan of approximately 12 cm. It is indigenous to the rainforests of Central and South America, and Mexico. Physical Characteristics: The top of the wings displays a vivid blue hue, created by tiny scales that reflect light. The bottom is brown and features eyespots for camouflage. The males have wider and more vibrant wings compared to females. Morpho butterflies consist of more than 80 species mostly found in South America, Mexico, and Central America. The name "morpho" is believed to come from the butterflies' shape-shifting appearance while in flight. This particular specimen is preserved in a 9"x9" frame.
