Anton Ausserer first described the genus Selenocosmia in 1871, and it is found in China, New Guinea, and Australia. These tarantulas are distinguished by their use of lyra hairs to produce a distinct stridulation, earning them the names "whistling" or "barking" spiders. This specimen is encased in a 9"x9" frame, preserving its unique characteristics.
